Eurostat is delighted to launch the 9th edition of the European Statistics Competition, a fun way to promote statistical literacy among secondary school students and help them discover the power of official statistics.
This competition offers student teams the chance to tackle statistical challenges and bring numbers to life by creating creative, engaging videos. It's your chance to learn, compete, and show off your storytelling with stats.
Nearly 27 000 students from 21 countries participated in last year's competition. Those who advanced to the European final created short videos using official statistics to explore whether GenZ is changing the world.
Team D.A.D from Lithuania took the first prize in the junior age group (14-16) with a science-fiction-inspired video on the differences between GenZ and the older generations. While in the senior age group (16-18), the first prize went to team TEAMXII2 (Portugal) with their video focusing on how GenZ is facing climate change.
Each participating national statistical institute organises a statistical competition in its country, either in the fall or winter. Registration generally opens at the start of autumn and all national competitions will be finalised by early May 2026. The timeline varies by country, so check your institute's website for specific dates and details.
Each joining country nominates up to 2 teams in 2 age groups (14-16 and 16-18 years old) for the European stage of the competition, based on the results of the national stage. Participating teams create a video exploring a specific topic using official statistics (the topic will be published in December 2025).
Following the videos' evaluation by an international jury, winners will be announced in each age category. Prizes include gift cards and a trophy! And the winning teams get to travel to the award ceremony somewhere in Europe at the end of June 2026 - follow our social media to find out the destination soon.
More information and general rules are available on the competition's website.
