Large-scale emergency response exercise

Public safety agencies across North Texas will take part in Metro X, a multi-day, full-scale emergency response exercise, simulating terrorist attacks and mass casualty incidents, across multiple cities, Oct. 27-29.

"MetroX is one of the largest regional exercises coordinated by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Emergency Preparedness Department and regional public safety teams," NCTCOG Executive Director Todd Little said. "This will help test our systems, plans and capabilities to ensure we are ready as a region for any large incident or disaster."

The purpose of the exercise is to test and strengthen regional preparedness, coordination and communication across all levels of emergency response.

Lewisville residents may notice a large police or fire presence outside Frederick P. Herring Parks and Recreation Center, 191 Civic Circle, on Wednesday, Oct. 29, because that facility has been chosen as a "family assistance center" for this exercise. Agencies will use Herring as a site to learn how best to set up an assistance center during an actual emergency.
