CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, announced $65 million in US Department of Transportation (DOT) funding for the West Virginia Division of Highways' (WVDOH) West Kanawha Bridge Bundle. This funding will support the full replacement of the Dunbar Toll Bridge and the rehabilitation of the Kanawha Turnpike I-64 Overpass in Kanawha County, West Virginia. The $65 million grant was awarded through the DOT's Competitive Highway Bridge Program (CHBP), which Chairman Capito funded as part of the fiscal years 2024 and 2025 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) appropriations bills.
"I am pleased that funding from the bridge program that I helped establish during the appropriations process will support the much-needed replacement of the Dunbar Toll Bridge as part of the West Kanawha Bridge Bundle project. I extend my gratitude to Secretary Duffy for awarding these important federal funds, which will improve safety and the movement of people and goods across the Kanawha Valley. I am proud to see this funding come to WVDOH to support their continued efforts to upgrade our state's bridges and I look forward to continuing to partner with the Trump Administration to deliver more infrastructure wins for our state," Chairman Capito said.
