Old Town Walking Tour

Every Saturday morning, history comes alive in Auburn as visitors gather in the lobby of the Historic Courthouse at 10 a.m. for a free Old Town Walking Tour.

Led by the museum's skilled and enthusiastic docents, the tour invites guests to explore the courthouse grounds and the heart of Old Town Auburn-rain or shine. Each stop along the way is brought to life through a blend of storytelling and historic photographs, placing visitors right where Auburn's early stories unfolded.

Participants will uncover answers to fascinating questions they may have never thought to ask, such as "How many courthouses came before this one?" "Where was Auburn's first cemetery?" and even "Where were the bull and bear fights held?"

The tour lasts about an hour and includes a walk down-and back up-the hill into Old Town, offering both a glimpse into the past and a bit of a workout for the present.

After the tour, guests are encouraged to visit the museum inside the Historic Courthouse to see current exhibits and learn even more about the people and events that shaped Placer County's history.

The Old Town Walking Tour meets in the lobby of the Historic Courthouse, located at 101 Maple Street in Auburn, every Saturday at 10 a.m. Admission is free and open to all ages.
