Kiama Municipal Council wishes to advise that a range of measures will be undertaken in light of feedback in response to the announcement of tonight's Extraordinary Meeting and in recognition that the administration building is a workplace.
Council's administration building at 11 Manning Street will be closed at 4pm with the customer service desk operating until 3.45pm.
The Public Forum will be held at 4pm, followed by the Extraordinary Meeting at 5pm.
Kiama Council is aware of the community protest and acknowledges the right to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly. However, priority is being given to the safety of the workplace - security staff will be on hand to manage the 20 seats available due to limited capacity and provide access to the building to members of the public.
NSW Police have also been advised of the intended protest for their awareness. Protesting and related signage is not permitted within the chamber or inside the Council workplace. Public access is managed in accordance with the Code of Meeting Practice for Local Governments.
Both meetings will be livestreamed via the Kiama Council website via https://www.kiama.nsw.gov.au/Council/Council-meetings/Livestream.
Any members of the public who would like to express their views about the outcome of the Extraordinary Meeting are encouraged to do so during the 28-day consultation period on the draft budget when it is released which will occur before a final decision is made on the 2026-27 budget.
