ICYMI: President Trump Signs Strong’s $15 Million for North Alabama into Law, Marking Over $33 Million to Date

WASHINGTON - This week, President Trump signed five Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 bills into law, which include an additional $15 million in Community Project Funding for North Alabama secured by Congressman Dale Strong, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. This marks over $33 million secured by Congressman Strong in FY26 Community Project Funding for the Fifth District.

The funding, included in H.R. 7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, makes vital investments in transportation and infrastructure improvements and workforce development initiatives across AL-05.

"As more families and businesses choose to call North Alabama home, the need for strategic infrastructure improvements and workforce development has never been greater. I know firsthand the traffic challenges and need for safer, more efficient roads. I'm proud to fight for federal investments that deliver real results. These projects will ensure North Alabama can continue to grow and lead," said Congressman Strong.

The $15 million in funding secured by Representative Strong and signed into law this week includes:

  • $5,500,000 for Additional Lanes on Capshaw Road from Old Monrovia Road to Jeff Road, relieving congestion in one of North Alabama's fastest-growing areas. The improvements will support public safety and reduce commute times.

  • $3,000,000 to Increase Capacity over the Tennessee River by carrying out a feasibility study to enable the city of Decatur to move toward a solution to replace the current bridge and improve traffic flow along a vital economic corridor and support long-term economic growth.

  • $1,000,000 for Athens State University's Workforce Development and Multipurpose Center, to make capital improvements to prepare North Alabama's students and mid-career workers with skills tailored to local employers' needs in high-demand fields.

  • $2,000,000 for the Huntsville International Airport (HSV) West Aviation Center project, to enhance aviation infrastructure and solidify North Alabama's position as an economic hub for defense, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.

  • $3,500,000 for Additional Lanes on Slaughter Road to address congestion and safety challenges on a heavily traveled commuter route.

A consolidated list of the $33,389,567 in FY26 community project funding secured by Congressman Strong for Alabama's Fifth District to date is below:

  • $5,175,000 for the Town of Ardmore to construct a groundwater treatment facility, replacing failing wells and providing a sustainable, reliable source of drinking water for residents and businesses.

  • $1,087,500 for the Town of Triana to make critical sanitary sewer upgrades.

  • $1,500,000 for the Town of Rogersville to construct an elevated water storage tank.

  • $1,200,000 for Lawrence County to modernize its radio system.

  • $592,305 for the Priceville Police Department to purchase new patrol vehicles and upgrade equipment.

  • $300,000 for the Hartselle Police Department to replace aging radio systems and modernize equipment.

  • $199,762 for the Somerville Police Department to purchase new vehicles and make technological upgrades.

  • $5,500,000 for additional lanes on Capshaw Road from Old Monrovia Road to Jeff Road to relieve congestion and improve safety in a high-growth corridor.

  • $3,500,000 for additional lanes on Slaughter Road to address congestion and safety challenges on a heavily traveled commuter route.

  • $4,200,000 for the University of Alabama in Huntsville's AI Research Facility for Space and Defense to bolster U.S. innovation, national security, and specialized workforce development.

  • $4,135,000 for the Auburn University Applied Research Institute in Huntsville to acquire high-performance computing capabilities for key national security and defense applications.

  • $2,000,000 for the Huntsville International Airport West Aviation Center to enhance aviation infrastructure and solidify North Alabama's role as an economic hub for defense, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.

  • $1,000,000 for Athens State University's Workforce Development and Multipurpose Center to make capital improvements to prepare North Alabama's students and mid-career workers with skills tailored to local employers' needs in high-demand fields.
