The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, attends via videoconference the 34th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group
The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, participated via videoconference in the 34th meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, where she reiterated Spain's firm and continued commitment to the defence of the country against Russian aggression. At the meeting, Robles was accompanied by the Secretary General for Defence Policy, Admiral Juan Francisco Martínez Núñez.
During her address, the Minister stessed that Spain maintains a constant, practical line of support, adapted to the most urgent needs communicated by the Ukrainian authorities. In this regard, she recalled the recent deliveries of equipment and announced new actions planned for 2026, with particular attention to artillery ammunition, radars, and unmanned systems.
Robles also reaffirmed the Spanish government's commitment to allocating another one billion euros to bilateral military assistance to Ukraine in 2026. She further explained that, within the framework of European defence support instruments, Spain plans to direct resources to key systems and continue promoting cooperation between the defence industries of both countries, especially in high value-added technological areas
With regard to training, the Minister for Defence highlighted that this April, Spain will surpass 9,000 Ukrainian military personnel trained on its soil as part of the European Union Military Assistance Mission. This, she noted, is a significant contribution that strengthens the preparedness and sustainability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The minister also emphasised the humanitarian dimension of Spanish support. She recalled that Spain continues to host families of Ukrainian military personnel in military residences and collaborate on rest and recovery programs for children, initiatives that complement strictly military aid.
At the close of the meeting, Robles conveyed a message of unwavering resolve and insisted that Ukraine remains a priority for Spain. "Our support is total and constant," the minister affirmed, reiterating that Spain will continue to stand by the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary.
