Marty Robinson
The Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra will perform a composition by UW-Oshkosh Professor Marty Robinson at their concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton on Saturday, Sept. 20. The piece, titled Evensong, will be featuring trumpeter, Michael Henckel, who is the guest soloist for the program.
The piece was originally written in 2008 for a recital at UWO for trumpet and saxophone quartet, but was later adapted for performances in 2014 in Rome, Italy, for trumpet with string quartet, and then recently re-orchestrated for full symphony with trumpet.
Robinson's work to be played in Pittsburgh
Next month, the Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra will be performing a different piece of Robinson's, written for renowned jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling on Oct. 3-5.
Stripling has performed several of Robinson's works over the past 17 years with major orchestras around the country, including the Milwaukee Symphony, the Boston Pops Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra and several others.
