The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) extended the deadline for the rule on web accessibility from April 24, 2026 to April 26, 2027 (2028 for small local governments).

The rule requires government web sites, documents, and applications to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. The same requirement already applies under the Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), but enforcement by the DOJ won't begin until 2027.
