Gold futures extend gains as safe-haven demand picks up.

Gold futures extended recent gains to trade back over $4,200 an ounce, supported by safe-haven demand and central bank buying ahead of the quarter-end. Chinese demand remains a key market factor as August gold imports have already surpassed the 2025 total. In the broader interest rate landscape, the CME FedWatch Tool indicates a 34% probability of a 25 bps rate hike at the October 28 meeting, a sharp decline from 72% just days prior, even as a hawkish tone persists from policymakers. Copper futures also caught a modest bid, trading up to $6.62 amid tight physical markets and ongoing mining supply concerns, despite a stronger U.S. dollar and hawkish central bank commentary. Meanwhile, Silver futures trended slightly lower and Platinum futures gained as the broader precious metals complex saw mixed positioning.
