NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin State University celebrated another record-setting Giving Day, raising $273,318 from 4,808 donors during its fifth annual event Sept. 18, SFA's 102nd birthday. This year's totals exceeded the goal of 3,500 donors and far outpaced 2024's results of $192,545 from just over 3,400 donors. The increase represents a 42% jump in dollars raised and 41% growth in donor participation year over year.
"Once again, Lumberjacks showed their pride and generosity," said Dr. Neal Weaver, SFA president. "Every gift strengthens the foundation of our university and expands opportunities for our students, faculty and community."
Building on the momentum from last year's campaign, this year's Giving Day featured broad participation from alumni, students, faculty, staff and community supporters. Contributions supported academics, athletics and student organizations across campus.
"It's not just about dollars, it's about growing a culture of philanthropy," said Dr. Trey Turner, associate vice president for SFA's Division of University Advancement. "The fact that nearly 5,000 donors gave this year demonstrates the power of the Lumberjack family united around a common goal."
For the first time, SFA partnered with local businesses to take part in the annual Giving Day. The university extends its sincere appreciation to this year's sponsors: Both Bloom Studio, Bottlecap Alley, Chick-fil-A, Chili's Grill & Bar, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Clothed in Armor, Dillas Quesadillas, Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Kat's Korner Boutique, Kona Ice, Layne's Chicken Fingers, Little Caesars, McAlister's Deli, Newk's Eatery, Panda Express, Papa John's, Raising Cane's, Sombrero's Coastal Tex-Mex & Cantina, Su Su's Popcorn and Well Body Solutions.
SFA also recognizes the generosity of the individuals and foundations who made lead gifts to provide donor participation incentives: Ashley Sacrider, Brent and Amie Bell, Kyle and Mary Dickson, the Micky Elliott Family Foundation, the Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Rusche Foundation, Randy and Lynn Atchison, and the Scott and Vanessa Thompson Foundation.
Together, these partnerships with local businesses and philanthropic leaders not only strengthened community engagement but also played a pivotal role in driving the record-breaking success of this year's Giving Day.
SFA Giving Day has grown dramatically since its 2021 launch, when just over $50,000 was raised from 150 donors participating. Now, five years later, it has become a signature event celebrating the spirit of generosity and community that defines Lumberjacks.
