Renewal Reminder: Retail Tobacco and Device Retailer Permits Expiring

The Iowa Department of Revenue's e-Services portal, GovConnectIowa, enables customers to file various tax returns, make payments, apply for and renew licenses and permits, and manage account information, in one convenient location, 24/7.

The following FY2026 permits will expire June 30, 2026:

If you intend to continue retail sales of the product types covered by these permits after this date, you should submit a renewal application through GovConnectIowa as soon as possible to avoid any interruption in your retail sales. Your application remains subject to approval by the local authority (city clerk or county auditor).

In accordance with the electronic filing (eFile) mandate effective July 1, 2025, established under 2025 Iowa Acts, Senate File 612, Division I, all FY2027 Retail Tobacco and Device Retailer applications must now be submitted electronically through GovConnectIowa.

To request access to an existing permit:

  1. Log in to your GovConnectIowa account
  2. Select Request Access to an Existing Account
    • Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the request process
  3. If we need to verify your identity, an access code will be mailed to the headquarters or primary address on file. Access codes expire 90 days from the date on the letter. They can only be used by the user that requested access.

Your local requirements may have changed. You should contact the local authority where your retail establishment is located to confirm any additional local requirements. If you have already submitted the necessary applications in GovConnectIowa, you may disregard this reminder. If you have questions regarding the status of your application, contact the local authority. Permits for approved applications may be printed while logged into your GovConnectIowa account.
