House Minority Leader Tony McCombie filed House Resolution 980 to honor the City of Galena as it prepares for its upcoming bicentennial alongside the commemoration of America's 250th anniversary.
Leader McCombie's resolution recognizes Galena's unique connection to the nation's history as communities across the country celebrate this historic milestone. From the city's ties to President Ulysses S. Grant to its enduring role as a destination along U.S. Route 20, Galena remains one of Illinois' most treasured historic communities.
"As we commemorate the history of our nation this summer, it is important to also recognize the path we have forged here in Illinois, in places like Galena," said McCombie. "This resolution is an effort to honor Galena's past as we look ahead to its bicentennial and the highly anticipated America 250 celebrations."
Leader McCombie represents the northwest corner of Illinois, including Galena. She has participated in numerous events celebrating the city's history and plans to continue supporting bicentennial-related activities as the milestone approaches.
