Meijer Supports Storm Relief Efforts Across Indiana and Illinois

Meijer teams quickly mobilized to help meet urgent community needs after severe storms, heavy rain and flooding caused widespread damage and extended power and water outages across Northwest Indiana, Northeast Illinois and parts of Central Indiana.

Working alongside disaster relief partners, local officials, community organizations and store teams, Meijer donated truckloads of bottled water, shelf-stable food, cleaning supplies, ready-to-eat snacks, pet food, hygiene items and gift cards to help affected families, shelters and community distribution sites.

Meeting Immediate Needs
As requests for support came in from across impacted communities, Meijer's Community team coordinated donations with trusted local partners, including the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, city and township officials, churches, fire departments, shelters and food distribution organizations.

In Henry Township, Indiana, Meijer provided four pallets of water, shelf-stable food and cleaning supplies to support 250 households after many families were forced to evacuate and temporarily relocate to makeshift shelters. In Cambridge City, Portage, Gary, LaPorte and Muncie, the company helped coordinate additional water donations through community centers, stores and relief organizations to support residents without reliable access to food, water or power.

Store teams also stepped in where they could. The Portage store donated $2,500 in Meijer gift cards to Family Promise of Porter County to help support shelter services, while stores in Muncie, Highland and Anderson provided items such as bottled water, toiletries, clothing, adult care supplies, snacks, pet food, dish soap and hydration products to local churches, emergency responders and community shelters.

Partnering for Ongoing Recovery
Meijer is continuing to coordinate with the Salvation Army in Illinois and Northwest Indiana, including delivering a truckload of water to the organization's Elk Grove, Illinois warehouse. The company is also working to provide hygiene kits, meals, food donations, gift cards and other recovery needs. The Salvation Army's community centers in Northwest Indiana have been providing food despite power outages, and Meijer is exploring additional ways to help support those efforts.

The company is also working with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to explore larger-scale food support for shelters and community centers. In addition, Meijer is reviewing available cleaning supplies to support a request from the Indianapolis Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Services.

A Community-Wide Response
With many residents facing prolonged power outages, flooded homes and continued cleanup, Meijer is focused on getting essential items where they can make the greatest impact. From bottled water and ready-to-eat meals to cleaning supplies and gift cards, each donation is designed to help families meet their immediate needs while communities begin the longer recovery process.

Meijer will continue working with relief partners to monitor needs and provide additional support as recovery efforts continue across impacted communities.
