Leadership Change at the Alliance for the Strengthening of Digital Infrastructures in Germany: Volker Ludwig Takes Over as Spokesperson

Frankfurt am Main, 13 April 2026 - The Alliance for the Strengthening of Digital Infrastructures, founded under the umbrella of eco - Association of the Internet Industry, announces a change in the role of spokesperson:

Dr. Béla Waldhauser is handing over the role of spokesperson to Volker Ludwig, SVP and Managing Director Central Europe at Digital Realty.

Waldhauser was a founding member of the Alliance for the Strengthening of Digital Infrastructures in Germany and has served as its spokesperson since 2018. In this role, Waldhauser set important impulses for positioning the digital infrastructure ecosystem as the backbone of digital transformation in the political arena.

"I am pleased to hand over the role of spokesperson role to Volker Ludwig, who will continue the Alliance's work with great expertise. The past few years have shown just how crucial clear framework conditions are for the expansion of the digital infrastructure ecosystem," explains Waldhauser.

With Volker Ludwig, a proven industry expert is taking on the role of spokesperson. As SVP and Managing Director Central Europe at Digital Realty, he is responsible for one of the world's leading companies in the field of data centre platforms and digital infrastructure. In addition, Ludwig serves as Vice President of the Frankfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, thereby bringing a close integration of industry and economic policy perspectives to the Alliance's work.

"Data centres and digital infrastructure are a key prerequisite for economic growth, innovation and digital sovereignty in Germany and Europe. To fully realise this potential, reliable and competitive framework conditions are needed at both national and European level," says Ludwig.

For Germany as a location, the key issues in focus are in particular energy availability and electricity prices, as well as the acceleration of approval procedures.

Political initiatives such as the German federal government's recently presented federal government data centre strategy, or the key points for a regional data centre strategy published by the Hessian state government, are heading in the right direction, but their implementation must continue to be monitored, Ludwig added.
