The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, participated in today's G7 Leaders' video conference focused on developments in the Gulf crisis and the related economic and energy implications.

In this context, the G7 Heads of State and Government reaffirmed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation.

President Meloni also reiterated the commitment to fostering a return to diplomacy able to lead to solutions for stability in the region, and stressed the importance of the G7's solidarity with the Gulf nations affected by Iranian attacks. With regard to this last point, President Meloni proposed organising a meeting between the G7 and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

During the meeting, President Meloni went on to underscore the importance of ensuring that the current volatility does not translate into structural impacts on economic growth. In this regard, President Meloni - along with the other G7 leaders - recalled the important decision made within the framework of the International Energy Agency to release up to 400 million barrels of crude oil in order to stabilise the markets.

The G7 Leaders agreed to maintain close coordination over the coming weeks in order to contribute to the resolution of the crisis and market stability, as well as to guarantee the security of energy supplies.
