Major Upgrades Set for Alec E. Baker Park

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 17, 2026) - The City is moving forward with major renovations to Alec E. Baker Park after the City Council approved a $2.59 million construction contract on September 2nd.

The contract with Z Tech Contracting LLC will transform the seven-acre park off Remsen Avenue, near Ellen and May streets. Planned upgrades include a new soccer field, basketball courts, a splash pad, new playground equipment, and a walking and jogging path.

The project will also add a fitness circuit, picnic area, gazebo, and a dog park with separate sections for large and small dogs.

The overhaul relies on $2.15 million in state funding secured in 2024, including $1.4 million from New Jersey's Green Acres program and $750,000 in urban park funds. The final design incorporates feedback from a local survey and public hearing on desired park features.
