U.S. Park Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Northwest Washington

WASHINGTON - The United States Park Police is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in the early morning hours of June 6, 2026, at the intersection of 17th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW at approximately 3:30 a.m.

The driver of the suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot and was quickly apprehended by members of the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division and transferred into the custody of the U.S. Park Police.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger from the second vehicle was ejected during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The decedent was transported by the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The U.S. Park Police Traffic Safety Unit conducted the on-scene investigation and crash reconstruction. Following consultation with the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, the U.S. Park Police assumed responsibility for the crash investigation and arrest related to the fatal collision.

The suspect is in custody, and charges are being coordinated with the United States Attorney's Office.

Road closures associated with the investigation have been lifted and all affected roadways have reopened.

The investigation remains ongoing.
