Share the Warmth, a Totes of Hope Initiative (United Way)

Help us turn kindness into comfort! We're inviting volunteers to collect warm essentials - coats, hats, gloves, socks, and more - to support our local warming centers. Your efforts will help those in need stay safe, cozy, and cared for during cold weather. It's an easy way to make a big impact and spread warmth throughout our community - one tote at a time!

Please donate only new, unused items. Items such as:

  • blankets
  • socks
  • undergarments (male and female)
  • scarves
  • gloves
  • hats
  • hand and foot warmers
  • sweatshirts
  • sleeping bags
  • long johns
  • winter coats
  • thermal blankets

Items may be donated at Memphis Union Mission between 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.

Neighborhood Breakfast

About the Event:

Address: 102 N 2nd St. (Calvary Episcopal Church)

Sundays 6-8 a.m.

The purpose of this event is to provide food, clothing, and toiletries to people experiencing homelessness in Memphis. Volunteers will help set up for the event, serve breakfast, assist with clothing and toiletry distribution, and help clean up after the event. As always, this is a great way to meet new people in our community. Please go to the back of the church to park in the lot (free to park in). You'll then enter the double doors at the back of the church.

Requirements

Wondering if you should register to volunteer? Based on the CDC guidelines, we're asking you the following questions:

  1. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC's risk assessment guidance.
  2. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a cough or shortness of breath or at least two of the following: Fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell. See the CDC's symptom information.

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to register. We're doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.

Medical Student Volunteers

About the Event:

This is an opportunity for medical students of UT Health Sciences to obtain volunteer clinic hours in a free primary health care clinic.

Mobile Food Pantry

About the Event:

Join us in this fun direct service event that helps those in need in our community!

The hours for this volunteer shift are 8:30-11 a.m. possibly ending sooner. Volunteer check-in will take place daily at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind our main building and distribution will begin at 9 a.m. We'll be working outside serving boxes of food in a mobile food distribution.

Volunteer roles include collecting data, loading food boxes into cars, and directing traffic. This entire shift takes place out of doors! We ask volunteers to dress comfortably and for the weather.

Our work is needed now more than ever, and we hope you can join us!
