City Completes Doorway Project’s Move to Pomona Park

The City has completed its relocation of the Doorway Project to Pomona Park at 3912 Clifton Rd. The program's 29 clients moved from the former Regency Inn site at 2701 N. O.Henry Blvd. into recreational vehicle (RV) sleeping trailers at Pomona Park earlier this month, before the winter-like weather hit the Triad. The 30 pallet homes were relocated last week, and all should be functional by the end of this week.

"The goal of the Doorway Project is to provide people who are experiencing homelessness in Greensboro with temporary shelter, along with services to help them find permanent housing," said Community Safety Manager Erin Williams. The City's Community Safety Department (CSD) provides funding, planning, and oversight of the Doorway Project and contracts onsite services, such as case management by the Interactive Resource Center (IRC).

Each of the program's five RV sleeping trailers has two bathrooms, including one with a shower, and accommodates up 14 people. The 30 two-person pallet homes are outfitted with USB outlets, heating/cooling units, smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers.

The relocation process for the Doorway Project involved a coordinated effort among multiple City departments - including the CSD, Parks & Recreation, Solid Waste & Recycling, Transportation, and Water Resources - and contracted services. The IRC is currently processing client referrals to enroll additional clients as capacity allows.

Begun in December 2022, the Doorway Project is the first temporary shelter community in North Carolina.
