At the 2026 Tech Talent Pipeline Residency Capstone Showcase, students majoring in computer information systems presented their creativity, technical ability, and problem-solving skills in cybersecurity and data analytics with faculty, peers, and industry professionals.
Baruch College undergraduates Nathaniel Dalton (BBA '27), Jingwen Ruan (BBA '27), and Nosaifa Lima (BBA '27) set out to tackle real-world business challenges facing Citi Bike. Applying data analytics and IT skills, the team explored viable ways to improve bike availability and make fares more accessible for New Yorkers.
Their project was part of Baruch's Tech Talent Pipeline Residency (TTPR), a program designed in partnership with NYC's leading tech employers and CUNY, to give computer information systems (CIS) majors a pathway to careers in technology.
They presented their findings at Baruch's Cybersecurity and Data Analytics Capstone Showcase, sharing their recommendations directly with NYC Department of Transportation's Sujin Lee, whom Dalton had invited to attend.
"It was great hearing their presentation since the department is seeking to provide more opportunities for riders to utilize Citi Bike services," said Lee, director of data science, bike share and shared mobility. "Ridership behavior is so different based on every borough, and we are looking at the system citywide to develop something new."
Equally valuable was the opportunity for the students to present in front of professionals working on these challenges every day.
"Completing this capstone has been a big boost, improving our communication and interpersonal skills," explained Dalton. "We have become better speakers, presenters, and data students because of this program."
Premier Pathway to NYC Tech Careers
Housed in the Zicklin School of Business's Paul H. Chook Department of Information Systems and Statistics, TTPR prepares students for careers in the fast-growing fields of cybersecurity, data analytics, and information technology.
The comprehensive multi-semester program includes an intensive bootcamp, 10-12-week paid internship with established NYC tech companies and startups. This summer, all 33 students who started TTPR in June 2025 landed internships across the city's technology ecosystem at prominent companies and government agencies including Port Authority of NY and NJ, Barclays, KPMG, and Amazon.
One-to-one career coaching, mock interviews and networking events make up the career launch phase into entry-level positions with competitive salaries.
Industry Partners for Student Success
Engagement with NYC's prominent firms also informs the program itself. Employer feedback helps guide the CIS curriculum and TTPR bootcamps, ensuring students build skills aligned with evolving technologies, workflows, and workplace expectations.
Through site visits to corporations such as Morgan Stanley and Citibank, TTPR students gain an insider's view of how technology teams operate, collaborate, and solve complex business problems.
Industry partners also bring cybersecurity scenarios into the classroom. During a recent tabletop exercise, "Operation Danger Close," CIS students assumed executive, regulatory, operational, and technical roles as they responded to a simulated cyber incident at a fictional financial institution. National cybersecurity firm Sentricus, along with Black Knight Risk Management, led the exercise.
"In this initiative, students build on their academic foundation with industry-aligned technical training, professional development, meaningful work experience, and connections to an expanding network of employer partners," said Sabine Salandy, TTPR program director.
"This combination of academic preparation and real-world experience helps our students develop the skills, confidence, and professional networks they need to successfully launch their careers and contribute to New York City's technology workforce."
