Tulsa Animal Services Surpasses Clear the Shelters Adoption Goal

Tulsa Animal Services (TAS) exceeded its Clear the Shelters goal in August with 509 animals adopted during the monthlong campaign-surpassing the shelter's goal of 500 adoptions.

In total, 647 animals left TAS for positive outcomes during Clear the Shelters, including:

• 509 adoptions
• 75 transfers to rescue partners
• 63 pets reunited with their families

The campaign was part of the national Clear the Shelters initiative, which encourages communities to adopt from and support local animal shelters. Throughout August, TAS waived adoptions fees and encouraged Tulsans to visit the shelter, foster animals, share adoptable pets and help create space for animals continuing to arrive each day.

"Reaching 500 adoptions was an ambitious goal, and Tulsa didn't just meet it-our community surpassed it," TAS Director Sherri Carrier said. "Every adoption, reunion, and rescue transfer represents an animal getting a positive outcome, and we're incredibly grateful to the adopters, fosters, volunteers, rescue partners and supporters who helped make that possible."

Carrier also made one additional promise during the campaign: if TAS reached its 500-adoption goal, she would dye her hair.

With 509 adoptions now official, that promise will soon be put to the test.

While Clear the Shelters has ended, TAS continues to need adopters, fosters, and community support. Animals are available for adoption throughout the year, and fostering remains one of the most immediate ways residents can help create additional shelter capacity.
