The newly appointed Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, paid his first official courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his office 03 July.

The Deputy Minister congratulated Vice Admiral Fernando on his appointment as the 27th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. He conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure and expressed confidence in the Navy's continued commitment to safeguarding the nation's maritime interests, while contributing meaningfully to national security and regional stability, thereby bringing honour and glory to both the country and the service.

During the cordial discussion, the Deputy Minister and the Navy Commander exchanged views on matters relating to maritime security, ongoing operational commitments, and the future development of the Sri Lanka Navy. They also discussed strengthening institutional capabilities and enhancing the Navy's role in addressing emerging maritime challenges.
