Cambridge Mobile Telematics Expands in Saudi Arabia with AWS-Powered AI Mobility Platform, Advancing Road Safety Across the Kingdom

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - October 1, 2025 - Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world's largest telematics service provider, today announced a major expansion of its AI-powered mobility platform in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Running on Amazon Web Services (AWS), this expansion brings CMT's life-saving technology to a new region through AWS Outposts, a fully managed service that extends AWS infrastructure and services on premises. Combined with AWS Direct Connect, which provides a private, physical network connection between AWS and CMT's data centers, the solution is designed to enable CMT and its customers to meet Saudi Arabia's data residency, security, and performance standards.

"CMT has rapidly expanded worldwide, and our growth in Saudi Arabia represents one of our most ambitious and impactful launches," said William V. Powers, Co-Founder and CEO of CMT. "We're a global company with a local mindset, building solutions that meet the highest standards for performance, experience, and compliance wherever we operate. In Saudi Arabia, that means delivering AI-powered insights that reduce crashes, protect lives, and help the Kingdom make roads safer for millions."

CMT's DriveWell Fusion® platform uses artificial intelligence and sensor fusion to deliver real-time insights into driving behavior, helping insurers, mobility companies, and the public sector reduce crashes and improve road safety. To meet data residency requirements in Saudi Arabia, CMT has successfully deployed the platform on AWS Outposts through a hybrid cloud architecture, which enables local data processing and rapid scaling. This deployment makes CMT the first telematics provider to use AWS Outposts in the Kingdom, creating a sustainable model for secure, scalable digital transformation in mobility and public safety.

The expansion is driven in part by a new nationwide telematics initiative from Najm for Insurance Services Company, which aims to improve road safety by transforming how driving risk is measured and managed. "This initiative will help reduce crashes and death rates, and protect everyone from road hazards, helping meet the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals," said Mr. Mohammed Y. Al Shehri, CEO of Najm, in the announcement of the initiative.

A Hybrid Architecture Purpose-Built for Safety and Scale
To help meet Saudi Arabia's data residency requirements, CMT built its architecture on AWS with a hybrid architecture. This architecture places AWS Outposts inside the Kingdom for local data processing, while establishing a dedicated connection to the AWS Bahrain Region using AWS Direct Connect for access to a broader set of AWS services.

While using consistent infrastructure, services, APIs, and tools accessed from the AWS Bahrain Region and its on-premises AWS Outposts deployment, CMT's architecture supports meeting its data residency obligations without compromising on scale. This hybrid approach also enables high-performance, low-latency analytics and facilitates seamless, accelerated regional expansion.

This future-ready digital strategy also ensures that workloads developed today are natively prepared for a seamless transition to the new AWS Region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia upon its launch in 2026, positioning CMT to capitalize on in-country cloud capabilities. CMT can replicate this hybrid model in other regions with similar regulatory requirements.

"CMT is pioneering how AI and cloud infrastructure can improve road safety at scale," said Amr Masri, Country Leader for AWS in Saudi Arabia. "By using AWS Outposts and AWS Direct Connect, CMT built a secure and high-performance solution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It's a standout example of how AWS enables customers like CMT to deliver mission-driven innovation with lasting impact."
