Ben Franklin Bridge: Eastbound Traffic Reduced to One Lane October 3-4

Milling and paving construction scheduled overnight; motorists advised to plan ahead.

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) will conduct milling and paving work on the Ben Franklin Bridge's eastbound lanes during the weekend of October 3-4. To minimize traffic disruptions, the work is scheduled to take place overnight and into the morning hours, weather permitting. This project will repair deteriorated pavement areas, ensuring a smoother driving experience for motorists.

What to expect:

  • Scheduled Work, weather permitting:
    • Friday, 10/3 at 8 p.m. through Saturday, 10/4 at 8 a.m.:
      • 1 lane open eastbound to New Jersey and 3 eastbound lanes closed for construction.
      • 3 lanes open to Philadelphia.
      • All entrance lanes from 6th Street will be closed eastbound. A detour will be in place.
      • All lanes are expected to reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday 10/4.
  • Bridge Motorists: Construction work zones will involve lane closures and reduced speed limits. During these times, only one eastbound lane will be open to the public. Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time, check traffic conditions before traveling, and consider alternative routes such as the Walt Whitman or Betsy Ross Bridge.
  • Bridge Neighbors: Due to the nature of milling and paving work, neighbors may experience construction equipment noise and bright work lights during overnight and early morning hours. Efforts will be made to minimize these impacts.

The Authority currently has $801.7 million in ongoing capital projects to maintain, improve, and upgrade our four bridges and PATCO transit line. To learn more, click here.
