Bettendorf Police Providing Update on Missing Man

June 9, 2026 - The Bettendorf Police Department is providing an update regarding the search for Jamarius Johnson, who was reported missing on June 7, 2026.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., first responders located a deceased individual in the Mississippi River. Preliminary information indicates the person is likely Jamarius Johnson. The Scott County Medical Examiner's Office is involved and will be conducting an autopsy and completing the formal identification process. Johnson's family has been notified of this development. No foul play is suspected.

"We extend our deepest condolences to Jamarius' family and friends during this incredibly difficult time," said Police Chief Doug Scott. "We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to all our first responder partners who have assisted in the search efforts for Jamarius."

Further information will be released as it becomes available and once identification is confirmed by the Scott County Medical Examiner's Office.

June 7, 2026 - On Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 1:36 p.m., the Bettendorf Police Department (BPD) received a report of a missing and endangered 21-year-old man.

BPD is asking for the community's help locating Jamarius Johnson. Johnson lives with family near 18th Street and Central Avenue, is 5'5" tall, and weighs approximately 140 pounds. He was last seen on Saturday, June 6, 2026, around 8 p.m. He was discovered missing on Sunday, June 7, 2026, around 1 p.m.

Johnson experiences mental-health challenges. He is generally quiet, keeps to himself, and may avoid social interaction. He has no vehicles, bicycles, or locations he typically goes to. He was last known to be wearing white Nike low-top shoes, jeans or sweatpants, and a shirt.
