Grassley Announces Appointment of Brenna Bird to Federal Judicial Center Foundation Board

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA - U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, welcomed the appointment of Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird to the board of the Federal Judicial Center Foundation. Bird was recommended for the position by Grassley in his capacity as Senate President pro tempore.

The Federal Judicial Center Foundation supports the Federal Judicial Center (FJC)'s work of providing orientation and training for federal judges and their staff.

"The Federal Judicial Center is responsible for providing impartial guidance that's followed in federal courthouses across the country. But recently, dark-money groups have sought to influence the FJC's work by pushing biased resources that tilt the scales of justice in their favor," Grassley said. "Partisanship has no place in the federal judiciary. Brenna Bird knows how to call balls and strikes, and the Federal Judicial Center Foundation will surely benefit from her Iowa commonsense approach. I was proud to recommend Brenna, and I congratulate her on this prestigious appointment."

"It is a profound honor to be appointed to the Federal Judicial Center Foundation Board," Bird said. "A fair, efficient, and well-supported federal judiciary is the bedrock of our constitutional republic. I look forward to supporting the Center's vital mission of providing impartial education and research to our federal courts, ensuring that the rule of law remains strong for all Americans. Thank you to Senator Grassley and Majority Leader Thune for nominating me for this important position."

Background:
Brenna Bird took office as Iowa Attorney General in January 2023. Before her swearing in, she served as a county attorney for six years, first in Fremont County, then in Guthrie County, and was elected as the Iowa County Attorneys Association President. Brenna was also legal counsel to Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, ran her own private practice, and taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa College of Law. She lives in rural Guthrie County with her husband Bob and their son.
