CDOT will begin safety and traffic flow improvements to four intersections along US 287 in Broomfield County in September

Project Announcement

Broomfield County - Starting on Sept. 1, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Villalobos Concrete, Inc. will begin making safety and traffic flow improvements at four intersections on US Highway 287 in the City and County of Broomfield. The purpose of the project is to reduce congestion and improve capacity to support current and future growth. The project has an anticipated duration of about four months.

The project includes widening, adding turn lanes, and improving lane configurations. Other work includes installing medians, adding pedestrian crosswalks, and installing new signal heads at two of the four intersections to accommodate the new lanes. When complete, these improvements will reduce bottlenecks, better accommodate regional freight carriers, and improve driver and pedestrian safety.

The project is located on US 287 from MP 296.119 to MP 299.356. The locations of the four intersections are:

• US 287 and Miramonte Boulevard, at MP 299.20
• US 287 and Midway Boulevard, at MP 298.30
• US 287 & CO 121 at the US 36 Interchange, at MP 26.10
• US 287/West 120th Avenue at Sheridan Boulevard at MP 296.10

Schedule & Working Hours

• The project is set to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with anticipated completion by late December.
• Working hours will be split between daytime (7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday) and night shifts (7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday to Thursday).
• Working hours will vary with some weekend work anticipated.
• Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists can expect the following traffic impacts during construction:

• US 287 Northbound (CO 121 to Dillon Road): Single lane closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays and 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. weekends
• US 287 Southbound (Dillon Road to CO 121): Single lane closures from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, and 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. on weekends
• US 287 Eastbound (W. 120th & Sheridan): Single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, and anytime on weekends
• CO 121 Northbound: Single lane closures from 9 a.m. to noon and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays, and from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. on weekends
• CO 121 Southbound: Single lane closures from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays, and from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. on weekend
• Full access to roadways, area businesses, sidewalks and driveways will be maintained
• Lane closures and other traffic notices are posted weekly to COTrip.org.

• Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
• Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
• Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
• Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
• Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
• Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
• Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
• Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
• Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
• Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
• Be patient!
