TIF, Bond Support Approved for Near West Side Nonprofit Laundry

A nonprofit commercial laundry will be constructed in North Lawndale through $10 million in financial assistance approved by City Council today.

The $49.2 million project by North Lawndale Catalyst Initiative will renovate the industrial building at 920-22 S. Campbell Ave. to serve a variety of Chicago medical providers such as Endeavor Health, Rush University System and Lurie Children's Hospital. Operations will be managed by Fillmore Linen Services.

The project is expected to create up to 250 new full-time jobs. Employees will have access to a variety of wellness services, including affordable housing, food, transportation, childcare, mental health, GED support and financial literacy resources.

North Lawndale Catalyst Initiative is a subsidiary of Steans Family Foundation.

In 2023, the City provided $10 million in TIF funding for the initial Fillmore Linen Services facility at 4100 W. Fillmore St. in North Lawndale.
