WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Betty McCollum, the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, issued the following statement on Thursday evening following House passage of H.Con.Res. 86, directing the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran:
"This evening, I voted to stop President Trump's unconstitutional Iran War for the fourth time. Democrats were finally joined by enough Republicans to assert Congress's constitutional War Powers authority and direct President Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from direct conflict with Iran. The American people have made clear that they oppose the war with Iran. The President should work with the international community to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the Iran nuclear materials issue and open up the Strait of Hormuz. I call on the Senate to immediately take up and pass this resolution."
