Deluzio Celebrates $1.4 Million Federal Grant to Help Recruit PA School Psychologists

CARNEGIE, PA - Today, Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) celebrated that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $1,414,743 in federal grant funds to the Pennsylvania Department of Education to help improve school-based mental health services for students. The grant will help to address the shortage of school psychologists by providing stipends and paying for exams for school psychology interns who would otherwise struggle to complete their program requirements and obtain certification.

"With so many kids in our communities facing mental health challenges, we need to be building a stronger pipeline of school psychologists to help," said Congressman Deluzio. "I'll keep working to bring federal money like this back home to Pennsylvania to strengthen our mental health staffing in schools and make sure our kids are supported."

The federal grant funding will be administered and distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, supporting programsstarted in 2023 to address the shortage of school psychologists.

The Trump Administration's efforts to freeze funding and pause federal grants has created significant uncertainty for grantees, varying by agency and program. As of now, the courts are involved in determining whether many of these funding freezes will continue permanently or go on pause. Congressman Deluzio's office will continue to monitor these developments and fight to make sure federal funding keeps flowing to projects that make life better for Western Pennsylvanians. Recipients of federal grants with issues accessing lawfully appropriated funds, should reach out to Congressman Deluzio's office at [email protected].
