Saturday Storytimes

October marks the start of our monthly Saturday Storytimes, which occur Saturdays from October through April at the Aalfs Downtown Library on 529 Pierce Street.

The month of October features a special Saturday storytime with Read-To-Me Dogs IN COSTUME on October 25 from 2-3 p.m. Children in grades K-5 are invited to done their Halloween costumes and drop-in to practice reading to gentle (and costumed!) canine listeners at the library!

On the 1st Saturday of each month, join us for 1st Saturday Family Storytime at 11 a.m. for stories, rhymes, and a craft. The theme for October is 'Pumpkin Patch Party!'

On the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturdays of each month, the library offers a special 20-minute Baby Storytime at 9:30 a.m. for ages 0-12 months and their caregiver. Early exposure to literacy is one way to set children up for success.

The 3rd Saturday of each month, patrons can enjoy Stories & Cuentos: An English-Spanish Bilingual Storytime with 30 minutes of storytelling in English and Spanish, along with a craft.

Teens:
Teens are invited to After-Hours Teen Trivia Night at the Library on Thursday, October 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Aalfs Downtown Library. This event is free and open to teens ages 12-18. Prizes and snacks are provided and costumes are encouraged! Get more info and register at siouxcitylibrary.org.

True Crime Talks:
Hear the stories behind crimes of Sioux City's past during the Library's True Crime talks in October with Local History Librarian Specialist, Sarah Enright. There are three special events to attend.

On Saturday, October 11 from 10-11am, join the Library at the Graceland Park Cemetery, 2701 S. Lakeport St., for Sioux City True Crime - Stories Beneath the Stone. This one-hour walking tour through the cemetery will visit the gravesites of crime victims. Enright will present the stories behind the investigations and headlines.

Later in October, patrons can attend Sioux City True Crime: A Century of Suspicion, which will have 2 events: at the Aalfs Downtown Library on Tuesday, October 21 from 6-7 p.m. and at the Morningside Branch Library on Saturday, October 25 from 11 a.m.-Noon. The October 21 presentation will also be available to watch on ZOOM. Register on the Library's website.

Details for all these events and more can be found on the Library's Facebook page at facebook.com/SiouxCityPublicLibrary or online at siouxcitylibrary.org.
