Earth Day Reminder: Trump Continues Attacks on Clean Air and Water, Oregon Republicans Follow Suit

Portland, OR - As Oregonians across the state celebrate Earth Day and enjoy the natural beauty of the Beaver State, Trump and his allies continue to cause irreparable harm to our environment.

Since taking office, Trump has systemically eliminated policy that protects our clean air and water, including:

In Oregon, GOP gubernatorial candidates are following suit. Just this month, candidates Ed Diehl and Chris Dudley highlighted their intent to repeal the Climate Protection Program during a GOP debate. Christine Drazan made a similar promise during her 2022 campaign, during which the League of Conservation Voters highlighted her amongst the "Dirty Dozen" worst state-level environmental candidates in 2022. Her inclusion on the list was based on her record of opposing "every single major climate bill in Oregon's recent history, including 100% Clean Energy for All, the Clean Energy Jobs bill, and the Oregon Environmental Protection Act. Drazan also helped lead the 2020 House Republican walkout to kill the Clean Energy Jobs bill."

"Oregon is a beautiful state, with a wealth of natural resources and access to clean air, water and land," said Federico Araujo, DPO Communications Advisor. "Democrats fought hard to get these common-sense protections in place, and we need leaders who will continue to protect our air and water instead of succumbing to the fossil-fuel backed interests of the Trump administration."
