PROVIDENCE, RI - Tonight, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) released the following statement on the shooting at Brown University earlier today at the Barus & Holley engineering and physics building:
"This is a horrific, active, and unfolding tragedy and it is important that everyone listens to law enforcement as they continue working to ensure the entire campus and surrounding community is safe and this threat is neutralized.
"We are heartbroken for the victims, their families, and all those impacted. Brown's students and its neighbors are shaken. Some families, classmates, and loved ones are gathered together in hospital waiting rooms at this very moment waiting for updates on patients. We are with them in spirit. They will need the support of all us in the days ahead.
"As the situation evolves, my office is in direct contact with the Mayor's office, university officials, and law enforcement, as well as some of the individuals impacted. As information comes in, I will continue to closely monitor the situation. The FBI and ATF are assisting and will work to ensure every federal resource required is available to assist the state, the City of Providence, and Brown University's police and public safety officials. We appreciate the hard work and professionalism of our first responders and hospital staff.
"Every lead is being followed, every bit of video evidence reviewed, and the manhunt will relentlessly continue. Whoever did this must be captured and our efforts will not cease until justice is served."
