Montgomery Invites Residents to Honor Dr. King Through Service on MLK Day

Montgomery, AL - This Monday, Montgomery joins communities across the nation in observing the MLK National Day of Service, a federal holiday dedicated to honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through acts of service. Established by Congress in 1994, this day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, inspiring millions to strengthen their communities.

Mayor Steven Reed is calling on residents to give back to the community.

"Dr. King taught us that life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' Let's answer that together. Even a few hours can make a lasting impact."

Montgomery offers several opportunities for volunteers to roll up their sleeves and make a difference:

HandsOn River Region - MLK Day of Service
Montgomery Biscuits Stadium, 200 Coosa St.
Check-in & breakfast at 8:00 AM; volunteers disperse afterward
Projects include Homeless Sleeping Mat Ministry, YMCA of Greater Montgomery, Tie and Doll Project, Rebuilding Together Central Alabama, Montgomery Public Schools, Heritage Training and Career Center, Successful Connections Nonprofit.

Jubilee Community Center - Service & Brunch
