BCC Briefs for Sept. 1, 2026

At the Sept. 1, 2026, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action on the regular agenda:

Administration - postponed the Criminal Justice Commission status as a separate office following an evaluation of the structure of the CJC to Sept. 15, 2026.

Airports- received and filed the Federal Aviation Administration Program Agreement with an effective date of July 14, 2026, and an expiration date of July 14, 2030, in the amount of $20,047,585 for the Runway Pavement Rehabilitation Project at President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Cooperative Extension Service - postponed to Sept. 15, 2026, the budget amendment in the amount of $13,259 for continued funding of a display gardens horticulturist position.

Environmental Resources Management - approved an updated Management Plan for the Cypress Creek Natural Area and provide for preservation, restoration management and passive recreational use of those resources. The annual management and operating costs are estimated at $1,455,246.

Facilities Development & Operations- approved an agreement for purchase and sale with Ava W. Pence and Keneth W. Pence, husband and wife, for the acquisition of a property consisting of approximately a 1.11-acre parcel improved with a 2,177 square ft. single-family residence located at 6557 Donald Ross Road in unincorporated Palm Beach County for the purpose of constructing a future Fire Station at a purchase price of $1,088,710.

Public Safety - postponed by a 6-0 vote, adopting a new Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Ordinance for preliminary reading on Sept. 15, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.

Approved the preliminary reading and permission to advertise for public hearing on Sept. 15, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for providing changes to the towing and immobilization ordinance to bring it in line with statutory language in addition to establishing new research fees.

Received and filed the Criminal Justice Commission Annual Plan report presented by County staff and Michelle Suskauer, 2025 CJC Chair. The Annual Plan Report informs the BCC of its activities and accomplishments of the prior year and the current CJC strategic work plan.
