Roundabout construction begins at Fairview, Chapel Hill

Construction of a new roundabout at opens in a new windowSouth Fairview Road and Chapel Hill Road began Sept. 8. The City expects it to continue through the end of winter, weather permitting.

The project is intended to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection and includes stormwater improvements and building a new sidewalk along the north side of Chapel Hill Road east of Fairview Road.

Chapel Hill Road will remain open throughout construction whenever possible, but drivers should expect lane restrictions, temporary closures and delays as work progresses. Public Works encourages drivers who can use alternate routes to do so, particularly during busy periods.

The City plans to complete the roundabout project in phases. Traffic patterns will change as construction progresses. Temporary closures may be necessary for certain work, including utility work. The City and contractor will provide updates as work progresses.

Drivers traveling through the work zone should slow down, follow posted signs and flagger directions, and watch for construction workers and equipment.

The City expects to complete the project before March, weather permitting. Winter weather could affect the schedule, particularly for concrete work that requires temperatures above freezing.
