Russia has suffered heavy losses in the Sumy direction and lacks the strength to conduct large-scale operations on the front. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during a joint media briefing with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

The President noted that this year, Russia has focused its offensive campaign on four main directions: Sumy, Novopavlivka, Pokrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia."The Sumy operation has failed. They suffered significant losses, primarily in manpower. Today, they have abandoned this direction and redeployed their forces and equipment to another area. I believe they suffered even greater losses there. Which area exactly, we will announce within, I think, the next two days," the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that despite Russia planning two more operations, it has lost substantial manpower due to the successful actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"I believe that, as of now, they lack the strength for large-scale operations," the Head of State added.
The President also stressed that Russia is attempting to disrupt logistics in Ukraine and continues to strike civilian infrastructure, including energy and railway facilities. However, Ukraine carried out successful response operations against the occupiers.
"One operation lasted two months. And I believe it caused a significant public uproar on their side. People couldn't reach certain places; flights didn't arrive as planned. And this wasn't because they were losing civilian lives, by the way. Here, I want to emphasize that this reflects the level of our corresponding actions: their civilians remain alive, while their logistics are disrupted," the President said.
