ATLANTA (August 19, 2026) - Today, Sen. Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) issued the following statement in response to allegations of improper use of taxpayer dollars and sexual misconduct made against Stockbridge Mayor Jayden Williams:
"The City of Stockbridge House and Senate Delegation is aware and deeply concerned by the serious allegations of improper use of taxpayer dollars and sexual misconduct involving Mayor Jayden Williams.
While we understand the Stockbridge City Council's desire to act swiftly, we believe the Council should stand down from its removal proceedings and allow Governor Brian P. Kemp to launch a full-scale investigation into the allegations against Mayor Williams. Given the critical nature of these claims, this investigation must be handled at the highest appropriate level of state authority.
We have faith that Governor Kemp will take the appropriate action once all of the facts have been established. If the allegations are substantiated, we must hold those responsible accountable.
The Stockbridge community deserves answers and the confidence that this investigation is being handled fairly. A thorough investigation by the State would be an important first step toward establishing the facts, ensuring accountability and allowing the City of Stockbridge to begin moving forward."
**Editor's Note: A letter to Governor Kemp from the Stockbridge Delegation is attached.
