PROVIDENCE, RI - Governor Dan McKee, Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green, East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva, and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) have announced that tickets are now on sale for the third annual "Menu for Success" Student Food Truck Roundup, being held on Saturday, May 16, from 12:00 to 3:00pm at Crescent Park, East Providence.
Attendees will be able to sample a variety of delicious bites from up to five student-run food trucks, as students from across Rhode Island highlight their culinary talents.
"Events like the 'Menu for Success' Student Food Truck Roundup showcase the creativity and culinary skills of our students while providing real-world experience that extends far beyond the kitchen," said Governor Dan McKee. "Operating a food truck inspires young people to build their culinary creativity while also teaching them how to manage a business and serve their community. These hand-on opportunities play a vital role in equipping our students with both the culinary and entrepreneurial skills needed to thrive in today's workforce."
"We are excited to provide our students with the opportunity to once again showcase their culinary talents at this great event for the third consecutive year, said Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. "RIDE remains committed to expanding real-world learning experiences for students across Rhode Island, and the 'Menu for Success' initiative is a prime example of that. I am encouraging all Rhode Islanders to join us in East Providence on May 16 to support the next generation of local chefs and entrepreneurs!"
"I am thrilled that the City of East Providence is once again hosting the 'Menu for Success' Student Food Truck Roundup," said East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva. "Following the success of last year's event, I am delighted that the roundup will once again be held at our beautiful Crescent Park. Seeing the pride these students demonstrate in their work is truly inspiring, and I look forward to seeing the creativity and culinary talents they will showcase this year."
The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) launched the "Menu for Success" program back in 2022 to support local education agencies operating food trucks - mobile culinary classrooms - as part of their culinary arts or Minority Business Incubator programs. Participants for this year's event include Central Falls, Chariho, Cranston, Coventry, Davies Career & Technical High School, East Providence, Lincoln, Newport, Pawtucket, Providence, Westerly, and Woonsocket.
The event comes as RIDE continues to expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings across the state. Since 2019, Rhode Island has nearly doubled the number of approved CTE programs. Next fall, RIDE will offer nearly 400 programs statewide, with more than half of all high school students expected to participate.
To sustain this growth, RIDE is supporting a $50 million CTE bond to expand pathways, update equipment, and create high wage, high growth opportunities across the state.
Anyone interested in attending this year's 'Menu for Success' Student Food Truck Roundup can purchase tickets for $25 on the Crescent Park website. One ticket includes up to five samples from a variety of student-operated food trucks and a bottle of water. For more information on the 'Menu for Success' initiative, visit the RIDE website.
