Reed: Trump Raising Social Security Retirement Age Would be a “Massive Betrayal of Americans”

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jack Reed today hit back against President Trump's Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner Frank Bisignano's admission that the Trump Administration is considering raising the retirement age for American workers. Reed stated:

"The Trump Administration's DOGE era moves are already making it harder for Social Security beneficiaries to access their benefits. Now they are talking about pushing up the retirement age so people have to work longer and get fewer benefits.

"Talk of hiking up the retirement age is yet another massive betrayal of Americans by President Trump. The cost of living is up, he's threatening health care for millions, he broke the bank so he could give billionaires tax cuts, and now he wants to raise the retirement age? This administration is out of control."

"Congress must shoot down the Trump Administration's trial balloon to raise the retirement age and work on a bipartisan basis to protect Social Security."
