Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Provides Immediate Alerts to Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Holders with the New Digital License and ID in Their Phone’s Digital[...]

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is urging all Georgians with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to add the new Georgia Digital License to their smartphone's digital wallet today! The digital license is secure and makes it easier to stay on the road with confidence.

The Georgia Digital License and ID (available for Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet), provides a secure, contactless version of your license and gives CDL holders a critical advantage: real-time alerts if their license status changes. Whether a suspension, medical certification lapse, or any other update, drivers will be notified instantly, before it becomes a problem on the road.

"Commercial drivers keep Georgia's economy moving, and we want to ensure they have every tool available to stay informed and compliant," said Angelique B. McClendon, DDS Commissioner. "With the Georgia Digital License and ID, CDL holders will receive immediate alerts to help them avoid being stranded far from home or facing penalties for issues they may not have been aware of."

This innovation is especially important for long-haul truck drivers, who may be hundreds of miles from home when a license issue arises. Without an alert, a driver might not discover a problem until pulled over or stopped at a weigh station-putting their route, load, and job at risk.

Please continue to keep the hard copy of your license with you at all times. Georgia Law Enforcement has until July 1, 2027 to begin accepting the Georgia Digital License.

DDS continues to lead the way in secure, mobile credentialing and is proud to support the hardworking commercial drivers who keep Georgia moving.
