Gas Odor in the Air on October 28

MLGW will perform routine maintenance involving mercaptan at Democrat Road and Portia Street on Wednesday, October 28.
This routine work will last from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The public in the surrounding area may smell mercaptan in the air. Mercaptan is the chemical odorant that MLGW adds to natural gas to give it the rotten egg/sulfur smell so it can be easily detected.
Depending on the wind/weather conditions, residents and businesses in the vicinity could smell this strong, sulfuric odor during the morning or from the odorant truck as it travels from each point.
Memphis Light, Gas and Water is the largest three-service public power utility in the nation, serving the residents of Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee since 1939.
