- Sept. 29 Deadline for Compliance, Fines at Stake
As TAB reported previously, the FCC has adopted new rules effective Sept. 29 requiring stations to harden their EAS gear and broadcast chains against cybersecurity attacks, with the most significant changes involving firewalls and passwords.
TAB presented a Texas-only live webinar on this matter Aug. 25 featuring nationally respected broadcast engineer Wayne Pecena with Texas A&M University and attorney Jessica Nyman with FCC's legal counsel, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. This webinar is archived HERE for members only.
TAB also supported a NASBA/NAB presentation also featuring Wayne Pecena, as well as representatives of the two leading EAS equipment manufacturers. This webinar is archived HERE.
Additionally, TAB Associate member Nautel has produced a webinar on this specific EAS compliance issue. Nautel's Jeff Welton discussed compliance with Cumulus Radio's Shane Toven and attorney David Oxenford of TAB Associate member Wilkinson Barker Knauer. This webinar is archived HERE.
The FCC is prioritizing this matter. Significant fines could be levied for noncompliance. TAB urges stations to ensure they meet the deadline.
