FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DOGE Hearing Achieves Results

Washington, D.C. (09/18/2026): As a result of the DOGE hearing, "Fixing Fraud and Failure in Federally Funded Homelessness Services," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has resigned from the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority (LAHSA) Commission, and the Department of Justice has charged multiple individuals associated with organizations that contracted with LAHSA.

This hearing highlighted serious concerns about fraud, mismanagement, and accountability within Los Angeles' homelessness system. More than $1 billion in federal taxpayer dollars have been distributed to LAHSA, yet it is largely unaccounted for. What was found was free drug paraphernalia being widely distributed.

LAHSA has now ceased serving as the distributor of homelessness funding in Los Angeles, but the investigation is not over. Mayor Bass's cowardly resignation will not stop the committee from issuing subpoenas and demanding answers. The American people deserve to know how their tax dollars were spent, who benefited, and who will be held accountable.

"The DOGE Subcommittee is tasked with rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse, and that is exactly what we have done," said Rep. Tim Burchett. "This is just one of many examples of how Republicans and the Trump Administration are committing to bringing transparency to government."
