The Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St., will host the fifth Dallas Bangla Uthshob, also known as the Dallas Bengali Festival, on Saturday, Nov. 14. The festival celebrates the cultural heritage of the Bengali-speaking Bangladeshi American community with a free afternoon book fair and literary gathering, followed by a ticketed evening show of music, dance and drama.
The Boi Mela (book fair) and Shahittya Adda (literary gathering) open at 3 p.m. Both are free, and no ticket is required. The evening show begins at 6 p.m. and includes live music, dance, drama and an awards ceremony honoring community members for their contributions to Bengali culture.
During the evening show, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Lonnie Tipton will present a proclamation on behalf of the Lewisville City Council recognizing the festival for contributing to cultural enrichment, community connection and the celebration of Bengali heritage.
"We're delighted to bring Dallas Bangla Uthshob to Lewisville for the first time. For many of our families, the festival is a chance to share the Bengali books, songs and stories we grew up with. We invite our Lewisville neighbors to come and share that experience with us," said Ken Kader, founder of Dallas Bangla Uthshob.
This year marks the festival's first edition in Lewisville. Previous festivals were held at the Irving Arts Center. Organizers began planning this year's event with a community tea gathering at the Lewisville Grand Theater in August, where artists, writers, theater practitioners and cultural organizers pledged their support. Maruna Rahi will serve as convenor of the book fair and literary gathering.
Tickets for the evening show are $15 and are available at
