The European Digital Infrastructure Consortium for AgriFood has received the European Commission's approval. Finland joins the Consortium as a founding member.

The aim of the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium for AgriFood (EDIC for Agri-Food) is to strengthen the EU-level digital infrastructure and the use of data on agriculture and the food sector. The European Commission published the Implementing Decision on EDIC for Agri-Food on 8 September 2026.

Membership in the Consortium will strengthen Finland's opportunities to influence the development of digital agriculture in Europe. It will also make it easier for Finnish operators to make use of EU funding, participate in international networks and promote the safe and European use of data on agriculture and the food sector.
"Finland's role as a founding member ensures that we can influence the development of common European solutions and, at the same time, strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of these sectors. The aim is that data produced by farmers can be used even better for their own benefit. Now that Finland is participating in building common European solutions, we can promote digital services that support the daily activities of farms, productivity and sustainable food production," Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah says.
The first meeting of the members of EDIC for Agri-Food was held in Paris on 1 October 2026. The other founding members are Austria, Croatia, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia, Poland and the Flemish Region (Flanders) in Belgium. Germany, Ireland, Latvia and Spain participate in the Consortium's work as observers. Elli Tervala and Hanna Majurinen represented Finland at the meeting.

The Finnish Government approved Finland's participation as a founding member of EDIC for Agri-Food on 22 January 2026.
