Lamar University's Center for Midstream Management and Science(CMMS) will host the American Society of Safety Professionals' (ASSP) 35th Annual Professional Development Conference on Oct. 9 in the Setzer Center Ballroom.
The one-day event, organized by the ASSP Sabine Neches Chapter in collaboration with the Associated Builders and Contractors of Southeast Texas, will feature industry experts discussing workplace safety, health, leadership and injury management. Lamar University President Jaime Taylor will deliver opening remarks.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the conference runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attendance is expected to top 225. Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit will be awarded to participants. Registration is $150 for nonmembers and $30 for Lamar students.
"This event will strengthen partnerships between industry and Lamar University and is keeping with the mission and vision of CMMS," Dr. Philip Cole, executive director of Lamar's Center for Midstream Management and Science said.
Dr. Alek Hutson, associate director of CMMS, played a key role in bringing the conference to Lamar University for the first time.
Quais "Q" Savoir, president of the Sabine Neches ASSP Chapter, said the focus of the conference is "make it home, make it safe, make it personal."

Founded more than a century ago, ASSP is a global association for occupational safety and health professionals. Its members develop standards, advocate for the profession, and work to reduce workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
