The conference, held in Zurich, Switzerland, provided attendees the opportunity to share common challenges, exchange information and best practices, assess and benchmark plant and industry performance and network with each other.
Senior leaders from nuclear power plants and utilities worldwide convened at WANO's 2025 Site Vice Presidents and Plant Managers (SVP and PM) Conference held in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 September 2025.
The conference, held every two years, was designed around the theme of Accelerating Progress to Achieve Excellence. Over 70 delegates from 26 countries and areas attended the event. The conference provided attendees the opportunity to share common challenges, exchange information and best practices, assess and benchmark plant and industry performance and network with each other. It offered a beneficial opportunity for delegates to meet their counterparts and strengthen relationships and take important learnings back to achieve excellence in their plants and fleets globally.
Dr Naoki Chigusa, the Chief Executive Officer at WANO, commented: "Industry leaders came together to discuss our individual and collective progress in maximising safety and reliability at plants worldwide. I am delighted with the strong participation and exchange of ideas and sharing of information throughout the two days. The interactive nature of the event programme provided opportunities for delegates to work together, network and share solutions to common challenges that will help to accelerate progress across the world's fleet."
A variety of speakers from members worldwide presented on the following topics; an Update on Industry Performance, Achieving a Culture of Continuous Improvement, Overview of Industry Significant Events, Nuclear Leadership Effectiveness, Improving Equipment Reliability and Organisational Effectiveness, among others.
Chigusa continued: "The industry established performance goals in 2019 to be achieved by each member station by 2030. As such, this conference is an important staging post in assessing where we are - individually and collectively - in that journey to excellence. It has also helped us review what support our members need from WANO and each other, and identify new strategies and actions to implement to ensure we meet or exceed the industry goals."
