Matt's practice focuses on handling matrimonial cases for high-net-worth individuals. His cases typically involve disputes over complex financial arrangements, family-owned businesses, or complex custody arrangements. He also advises clients on prenuptial agreements and provides general advice and civil litigation services to wealthy individuals and their businesses. Matt frequently works with forensic accountants and other financial experts to help resolve his clients' cases, leaning on his prior experience as a commercial and securities litigator in Big Law.
"BSF's reputation for cutting-edge litigation dovetails perfectly with my practice," Matt said. "My clients typically value privacy and speed, but the ability to take cases to trial is an important component of effectively representing their interests in what are typically highly complex cases. Additionally, the firm's national - even international - footprint is an asset as I look to expand my practice."
Matt is a fellow of the Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and teaches business valuation and trial skills as a member of the faculty of the National Family Law Trial Institute (NFLTI). He also volunteers as a family law mentor for the D.C. Bar Advice and Referral Clinic.
"We are thrilled to add Matt to the firm," said matrimonial and family law practice leader Charles Fox Miller. "Having known Matt for many years as a fellow NFLTI faculty member, I have seen first-hand how much skill and talent he will bring to the firm and our clients. I look forward to working with him and to expanding our busy practice."
BSF's matrimonial and family law practice handles some of the most difficult and challenging cases in the world, working across jurisdictions, both nationally and internationally. We bring the firm's successful litigation approach to the full range of issues faced by clients in divorce and parenting actions, including custody, relocation, paternity, allegations of domestic violence, distribution of assets and liabilities, alimony, child support, and the recovery of attorney fees. From complex asset divisions to challenging custody battles, we resolve even the most contentious disputes through trial or negotiation.
"We have the premier family law practice for high-net-worth clients and executives," said Chairman Matthew L. Schwartz. "Matrimonial cases are understandably less often in the spotlight, but the skills of this group - including at trial - are no different than any other capability we have at BSF. We're excited to add Matt to the team."
